If you want to add a cute detail to a scarf, a bag or even to your gift wrap (see our article on how to make your own), you can’t go wrong with a pom-pom. There so easy to rustle up as well. Just follow our simple instructions and have a ball!

  1. Decide the size of your pom-pom and cut 2 ‘doughnut’ shapes out of thick card. Use a compass or draw round something round.

  2. Place the two rings together and start winding your yarn around them, as shown.

  3. Work your way around until they are completely covered and the hole in the ‘doughnut’ is too small to pass through any more yarn.

  4. Snip the yarn all the way around the edges of your ‘doughnut’. Your scissors should eventually pass between the two pieces of cardboard as you cut.

  5. Pass a new length of yarn between the two cardboard rings, tie it tight and then remove the rings. Trim any lengths of yarn that make your pom-pom look untidy.
